Organized at Madison, IN and mustered in August 20, 1862. Ordered to Louisville, KY and attached to 1^st Brigade, 2^nd Division, Army of Kentucky, Dept. of the Ohio. The Regiment lost a total of 249 men; one Officer and 52 Enlisted men were killed and two Officers and 194 Enlisted men succumbed to disease.  The chronology below shows their assignments, service, and engagements with the enemy:     Reference.
