23rd Wisconsin Infantry Organized at Madison, WI and mustered in August 38, 1862, the Regiment left the state for Cincinnati, OH September 15. They were attached to 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, Army of Kentucky, Dept of the Ohio to October 1862. The Regiment lost during service one Officer and 40 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded. They also lost five Officers and 262 Enlisted men by disease for a total loss of 308 lives. Mustered out near Mobile on July 4, 1865.
