Organized at Camp Harwood, Harrodsburg, KY, mustered in January 2, 1862, were attached to the 20th Brigade, Army of Ohio and moved to Somerset, KY in January 1862, had duty there until April that year. The Regiment lost during service one officer and 42 enlisted men that were killed or mortally wounded. They additionally lost three officers and 152 enlisted men by disease for a total loss of 198 men.  The chronology below shows their assignments, service, and engagements with the enemy:
